5 for Friday - er Saturday!

So I'm posting here for my linky, since I'm on Fall Break still & these photos are what I've been up to during break:

My mom and I were literally sewing machines -

So I got started on my newest quilting project -

There are 48 of these poppies to sew around, cut into 4ths, & then piece back together into 48 mix-matched blocks.  So excited for how it will fray & look rustic.

And Elsa had to get in on the action...my mom came over to show me how she decided to border her quilt & Elsa was so excited to weigh in her opinion:

Mom sewed a care package of goodies for Addi & Lucas - the costume above was the main reason for the package...but Mom couldn't help but include some PJs, a chevron quilt, & a few receiving blankets for baby-to-be - can you tell Lucas' nursery is gray chevron with blue/orange accents?

And...I got my "shop on" with some fun things for my house & my wardrobe:

Bought a neon infinity scarf for "bright color" day - Red Ribbon Week 2014!  And, saw this polka dot shirt & it just made me smile...yeah for gift cards, spent $28 at Kohls & left with new jeans & this top.

This one is for my 'admit one' ticket stub shadow box...I save all my ticket stubs & this box was on pinterest...so now I have a place for all my fun ticket stubs - so I can brag about all the cool shows/concerts I've seen (NOT!  LOL - gotta get my show on)!

Even though it's Saturday - Fall Break was awesome & my pics reflect some much needed relaxation,

New Blog & blah, Blah, BLAH!!

So I did it - I started a classroom blog!

It's called Crayon Confessions
The colorful happenings of Miss King's classroom, Room #13
- Don't you love the title? {If not, keep it to yourself, I've been really working hard on it :0)!!!}

It is far from done - I'll give you more info on my school blog - right now it's just empty (but I was in love with my title, so I found a free HEADER so I could snatch up the title...now I'm trying to decide if I wanna pay for super special buttons & graphics to really beef it up - since I'll ask parents to stop by and view the pics.).

I haven't been this pumped up about SCHOOL STUFF for some time! I have so many ideas that my plans are sketched out until 11/22 (Thanksgiving break starts 11/23). {C-ha-RAZY!!!!}

So what will I blog about now that school has it's own place? I am going to have to get a life - oh wait, until recently I was blogging all about other things. Now I just have to get some balance...and man, can I just say, Pinterest is ADDICTIVE!!

I have found so many ideas - already have a plan for my homemade Christmas ornaments, for the family!! I can't post until after 12/25 because that would ruin the surprise - but, they are SUPER cute, made by me, & OH SO EASY - that has become a PRE-requisite!!

The button ones I made last year were too, if you're looking for a simple ornament project look here.

Oh, and my newest quilt Rockefeller Rival is going to be fun to get started. I bought {and gifted} the circle cutter to my mom - so with my "Reindeer Games" layer cake & tools in hand, I'm all set to get that going!

So this post is turning into a brain dump, but my house is {mostly} decorated for fall - is yours? Can't wait to finish jig sawing with Jen to add those fun pumpkins to my fall decor stash. BTW, how did crackle painting turn out J?

That's all now - (like this isn't enough)!!

XOXO,
Kristan

"Reindeer Games" Layer Cake

So I just got a great surprise - my newest quilt pattern 'Rockafellar Rival' from the 'Reindeer Games' line, a layer cake (basically like the charm pack I linked to above, but larger squares. {Isn't it DARLING?!?!}

And let me tell you after this week, it couldn't have come at a better time! I am beyond tired, stressed, and frustrated. I need a strong drink and a new attitude about the whole situation.

For now, I'm just praying about it & trying to leave it with God - He is after all the only one who I can count on.

Can't wait to sew my stress away this weekend :0) - next week HAS to get better or I'm going to take a personal day - a personal day to catch up on sleep and stop this stress!

Gobble, Gobble

Okay, so a promise is a promise (Shawn)! Look at my second completed quilt & a picture all on the same day--I'm getting better :0).

A $498 Fiasco

Since, I am 3/4 of the way done with my final (5th) snowman cross stitch, I decided to begin preparing for a second quilt - by the same designer, look at her website: www.piecesfrommyheart.net. This one will be equally cute, but I'm not showing pics of the quilt until it's finished. It's my Type A (Shawn hates that). Here are some pics of my fabric choices though:

What do you think?

So, now for the $498 question! As the sales woman was checking me out at JoAnne's on Friday, she was efficient & orderly - I had 28 different 6 in. pieces of fabric, so I understood her need for accuracy. She finally gave me the total...$498.

I was like, "I'm sorry, how much?"

"$498."

I began to fumble and blush, afraid that I'd have to pay $500 - because I had just spent 30 mins. at the cut table & another 15 mins. in line to pay. "Ummm, don't you think that's waaaay too much?" I replied starting to tear up - how embarrasing I thought, I'm going to have to leave because I can't afford my purchases!!!! Mentally, I began mocking myself: "Don't you know how to add--You're a TEACHER for cryin' out loud!" I think I even said to the cashier, "Well I am just a teacher, I can't afford $500 for fabric!"

Well, needless to say the cashier found the error - not either her or my fault. At the cut table the associate forgot a decimal point. So fabric that was $4.98 per yard, became $498. After my coupons & the 3 way split of costs with my Mom and Sis...the quilts will cost about $20. Not bad...way better than $500 that's for sure!!!

"...She's Crafty!"

All these craft posts & my Mom, have encouraged me to finish up all my: "started, yet not completed projects." Like my set of 5 counted cross stitch snowmen wall hangings...one more to go & then they'll be ready to frame (just in time for Christmas, I'M SO EXCITED!!)

Or, the pumpkin quilt...which is now happily smiling upon me each time I enter my living room!

And the 12x12 message board - an idea which I stole from Clare, who stole from a blog, etc.

Finally, I have all the supplies to make my candy corn wreath & most of the supplies needed to start my book wreath (hopefully I can find the right kind of book, but all the rest is covered). I'm looking forward to Clare's help today with finding that "just right" book :0).

I'll keep you posted with the quilt pics & my handmade Christmas ornaments...
